A German watchmaker

NOMOS

One of the few but famous watchmakers from Germany is NOMOS. With their tidy, linear and clean designs they slightly take over the world of luxury watch making. They only produce their watches with in-house movements and even won some awards for their watch collection

Private & Independent

The history of NOMOS

Located in a small town in Germany, Glashütte, NOMOS quickly gain confidence when it comes to watchmaking. They’ve been known for their classy looking watches with in-house movements and are considered a whiz-kid in watchmaking. Since the foundation of NOMOS in 1990 it’s been privately and independently run and own. One of their great successes was the NOMOS Swing System which was introduced in 2014.

It took almost 12 million Euro to develop this escapement which includes a balance, spring, lever and escape wheel. After the fall of the Berlin wall, Roland Schwertner brought NOMOS back to life, while NOMOS already started out in the early 1900s. Since Roland Schwertner, NOMOS had to prove that the watches were produced in Glashütte and he did. To receive the Glashütte designation of origin, at least 50% of the watch must be made in this small town in Germany.

Speedometer Design

The NOMOS Autobahn

With the NOMOS Autobahn being introduced at Baselworld in 2018, this 41mm case got the design of a car’s speedometer. It features eight small boxes made of SuperLuminova that arch across the dial.

The watch is only 10.5mm thick with a robust, water-resistant textile strap to keep it on your wrist. It is water-resistant up to 100 meters and can be found at Wristler for roughly €3.200

The popular one

NOMOS Targente

One of the most popular watches in the NOMOS collection is the Targente. It features a round case, tempered hands, a small seconds dial with Arabic numerals. You can opt for the 35mm case size and is only 6.2mm thick. You can already find one at €1.000 pre-owned.

When you’re in the market for a slightly bigger watch, you can opt for the 41mm case since 2018. This watch features an innovative date display with to red markers to frame the date around the dial edge. You can call this your own for roughly €3.000.
