Description
Omega was founded in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. By 1900 Omega produced one of the first serially produced wristwatches in the world. During WWI 1914-1918, Omega supplied trench watches to officers — pocket watch movements cased in solid silver with fixed wire lugs to strap to the wrist. This is one of those: a 1916 solid silver cushion case with white enamel dial, small seconds and hand-engraved owner's name on the back. A 110-year-old piece of horological and military history.
CASE:
o Trench / cushion case with large fixed wire lugs - classic WWI Officer's shape
o Construction: Solid Silver 0.900 - confirmed by Omega logo and Swiss bear hallmark inside caseback - inner dust cover signed "5918655" with Swiss hallmarks - engraved on outer back "G. Dubrit " in script with serial "5918655" and Omega logo — previous owner's name, typical war-time presentation engraving
o Dimensions: 31mm width x 36mm lug to lug x 11mm thickness x 20mm lug width - large for 1916, modern 31mm today
o New generic crown
o Crystal: New generic plexiglass
o The swan mark you see is the Swiss official silver hallmark for.900 silver
MOVEMENT:
o Omega Manual Wind - 15 Jewels - Serial 5108417 - 1916 production
o Working condition - Runs, winds and sets
o Serviced by watchmaker in September 2026 (movement was disassembled, washed, lubricated) - photo of timegrapher - We decided to preserve originality as much as possible and not replace parts, given the 100+ year age, accuracy is secondary to preservation, that is why you will be a major deviation..
DIAL & HANDS:
o White enamel dial - with characteristic hairline cracks in enamel
o Black Arabic numerals with red 13-24 hour inner track, black railroad minute track, Omega logo and "OMEGA" at 12
o Original black cathedral / poire skeleton hands - blued steel - original
o Small seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock with black track and blued hand - original
o Dial is signed Omega, no radium - safe
BRACELET / STRAP:
o New 20mm black leather strap - to fit the large wire lugs - never worn
o Generic chrome buckle
CONCLUSION / CONDITION:
A true WWI time capsule! A 1916 Omega solid silver trench watch with enamel dial, wire lugs and owner engraving. This model is documented as one of Omega's first wristwatches, directly related to the 1900 first Omega wristwatch shown in "A Journey Through Time" book. Perfect for Omega collectors, military watch collectors and lovers of 100-year-old horology.
Please see photos as they are part of the description.
