In the year 2003, Rolex marked the 50th anniversary of the Submariner. They did this with the launch of the reference 16610LV at Baselworld. The abbreviation LV stands for Lunette Verte. This is French for ''Green bezel''. This model is also known among watch collectors as the ''Kermit''. This was therefore the first Rolex Submariner with a green colored bezel combined with a Maxi dial. The Rolex brand is associated with the color green and this is also reflected in the logo, the boxes, the hang tags, etc. However, no official statement has ever been issued by Rolex as to why a green bezel was chosen. The Submariner 16610LV was only in production for a period of 7 years during which the model underwent several changes.
