Rolex Datejust 1600 'Blue Pie-Pan Dial' (1966)
De Datejust 16XX-serie werd geproduceerd tussen de jaren '60 en '70. We kennen natuurlijk allemaal de bekende referentie 1601 met witgouden fluted bezel en de 1603 met de stalen engine-turned bezel. Maar natuurlijk mogen we de Datejust 1600, die voorzien is van de zogeheten stalen smooth bezel en perfect binnen dit rijtje past, ook niet vergeten.
Kenmerkend is dat de Datejust 16XX-reeks werd voorzien van de zogeheten pie-pan wijzerplaten. Deze modellen zijn verschenen in een tal van wijzerplaatvarianten, waarvan sommige momenteel wat schaarser en verzamelwaardiger zijn dan andere. Denk aan zilver, wit, antraciet, champagne, zwart en blauw. Natuurlijk mogen we ook een ander belangrijk kenmerk niet vergeten: deze modellen werden geleverd met een sportieve oysterband of een sierlijke jubileeband.
Hier voor ons hebben we een prachtige vintage Rolex Datejust 1600, voorzien van een smooth bezel. Dit maakt het horloge iets meer ingetogen en geeft het een wat sportievere uitstraling. Iets waar we natuurlijk weer heel blij van worden, is dat deze Datejust 1600 uit het jaar 1966 voorzien is van een blauwe sunburst pie-pan wijzerplaat, die nog in een perfecte en volledig originele staat verkeert en steeds schaarser wordt in deze conditie.
Kenmerkend en correct voor de periode is de opdruk in serif-lettertype, herkenbaar aan de karakteristieke schreven (serifs) aan de letters, evenals de datumaanduiding met de open 6 en open 9. Ook mogen de gefacetteerde uurmarkeringen, die zorgen voor een prachtige fonkelende lichtreflectie, niet worden vergeten. Daarnaast zijn de wijzerplaat en de wijzers voorzien van een fraaie, egale beige patina, die het horloge een warme uitstraling geeft.
De 36 mm kast is nog mooi scherp, waardoor alle originele hoeken en lijnen nog perfect zichtbaar zijn. Verder is deze Datejust 1600 voorzien van een folded jubileeband, die met een acceptabele rek ook nog in een perfecte staat verkeert.
