Description
Beleta is one of those fascinating names from the golden age of Swiss independent watchmaking. Registered in Switzerland as early as 1942 by Max Brailowsky’s Beleco Watch in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the name appeared on a variety of watches during the mid-20th century, ranging from elegant hand-wound dress watches to sporty chronographs. Later trademark records show the Beleta name under Voumard Montres SA, another Swiss watchmaking concern. Like many smaller Swiss maisons of the period, Beleta has largely disappeared from the mainstream history books, making surviving examples all the more charming for collectors of lesser-known vintage Swiss watches. This two-register 36mm chronograph is a wonderfully cool example, featuring a snap-back case, square pushers and a dial packed with character. The multiple scales include a black minute track, a red telemeter scale and a blue “snail” scale graduated to 100. Adding even more charm, the Arabic numerals are printed in a warm copper tone, complemented by elegant alpha-style hands and two subsidiary registers for the chronograph functions. The watch is fitted with one of our Bulang & Sons leather straps, while the hand-wound movement ( based on Landeron cal. 48)has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is ready for many more years of enjoyment. Honest, rugged and full of history. A proper Chrono for the collector who appreciates watches with a story to tell , get in touch !
