The history of Omega began in 1848, when 23-year-old watchmaker Louis Brandt established a small watchmaking workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Over the following 175 years, the company evolved from a modest atelier into one of the world’s most celebrated luxury watch manufacturers, renowned for its achievements in precision timekeeping, space exploration, professional diving watches, and mechanical innovation. The Omega Calibre 28.9 (often designated as Cal. 28.9 CHRO) is historically significant as Omega’s first compact wrist chronograph movement, produced in very limited numbers between 1932 and approximately 1943. Developed in partnership with Lemania — where it was known as the Lemania 13CH — this 28.9 mm movement laid the foundation for Omega’s iconic sports and military chronographs, eventually evolving into the legendary Calibre 321 used in the first NASA-approved Speedmaster. It is closely related to the Calibre 33.3, but considerably rarer, especially in a case configuration such as this example. This particular specimen is housed in a steel case with a screw-down case back and oversized pump pushers. The silver dial features a base-1000 outer scale, a telemeter scale set against a copper-coloured backdrop, glossy black Arabic numerals and two sub-dials for the chronograph functions, all without applied lume. The watch is completed by elegant black hands. This historically important chronograph is fitted with a beautiful Bulang and Sons strap and buckle and has been fully serviced by our watchmaker. Fun fact we have yet another of these caliber 28.9 Omegas in stock and it has exactly ONE (!) number different then this one in other words: The movement has consecutive serial numbering.
