This Patek Philippe World Time reference 5230G combines classical elegance with one of the manufacture’s most celebrated and practical complications.

The beautifully proportioned 18-carat white-gold case measures approximately 38.5mm. Its polished surfaces and gracefully curved lugs give the watch a refined presence, while remaining discreet and exceptionally comfortable on the wrist.

The dial is the defining feature of the reference 5230G. Its intricately hand-guilloched centre is surrounded by a clearly arranged city disc, representing 24 international time zones.

A rotating 24-hour ring displays the corresponding time in each city. The different colours and sun-and-moon symbols allow daytime and nighttime hours to be identified immediately.

The local time can be adjusted using the pusher positioned at 10 o’clock. Each press advances the local hour hand, city disc and 24-hour ring simultaneously, without affecting the accuracy of the movement.

The watch remains in excellent overall condition. Its white-gold case has retained attractive proportions and shows only minor traces of careful use.

Our watchmaker has thoroughly inspected the movement and confirmed that it is functioning perfectly.

Inside is Patek Philippe’s renowned self-winding calibre 240 HU. This ultra-thin movement uses an off-centre 22-carat gold micro-rotor, allowing the calibre to retain its elegant and exceptionally slim construction.

The movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback. Its traditional Geneva finishing reflects the exceptional standards associated with Patek Philippe’s complicated wristwatches.

The watch is fitted with a black Patek Philippe crocodile leather strap. It is paired with an original 18-carat white-gold Patek Philippe folding clasp, distinguished by the iconic Calatrava Cross.

In our view, the reference 5230G currently offers a remarkable combination of craftsmanship, complication and everyday usability.

It provides considerably more than a conventional dress watch. The hand-guilloched dial, precious-metal case and sophisticated World Time mechanism give the watch a distinctive identity.

Despite these qualities, the reference 5230G remains relatively understated within the current collector market. This may change as collectors increasingly recognise the appeal of elegant and traditionally sized complicated Patek Philippe watches.
