The model is a representative of the Aquatimer series, launched in 2009.
The most impressive change in the new model, apart from the fact that it has become larger overall, is the bezel, which features a sapphire insert. On the inner side of the crystal, the markings have been applied using a special technology with generous use of Super-LumiNova®, which guarantees that dive time can be monitored even in unfavourable lighting conditions, while the massive edges of the outer bezel flange are easy to operate even with thick gloves.
The bezel has a clearly coloured first quarter between “12” and “3 o’clock”, which gives the watch an impressive appearance. The colour follows the tone of the minute hand and, in this case, apart from being signal yellow – the only colour that remains clearly visible in the depths and is not significantly altered by water – this colouring is also preserved in the luminescence.
This particular watch comes in the very rare combination of a black dial with yellow accents. This makes the overall impression even more complete, while the strap is very comfortable, substantial and equipped with a quick-change system, thanks to which it can be replaced in seconds without the need for special tools.
The movement of this watch is the ETA 2892-A2, specially modified for the brand, which IWC calls the IWC caliber 30110 – a movement proven across many brands and models, time-tested and relatively easy and inexpensive to maintain, and in this brand’s case, from the highest ETA grade.
Although the watch is a true tool for professionals, it is made to look like a very expensive and noticeable accessory, one that can hardly remain unnoticed and proudly shows that it carries the DNA of a high-quality brand with tradition and history. It is clear that most watches of this kind, although equipped with everything necessary to be used for their intended purpose, rarely see the depths of the sea, not to say never. In our opinion, this one has an urgent need to get wet – if only to pay the proper respect to the “Aqua” prefix in its name.
