Today, we have the pleasure of presenting to you a representative of the model series dedicated to the living legends of Formula 1. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Rubens Barrichello II Titanium 26078IO.OO.D001VS.01 There is much debate as to why Audemars Piguet chose Rubens Barrichello specifically as the namesake for one of its limited editions, but we are most fond of the explanation that the brand wished to pay homage to all its affluent clients from Latin America – because there, the Brazilian is literally an icon! Rubens Barrichello has a long and very successful career in Formula 1 – starting in 1993 with Jordan, and later racing for several teams, including Ferrari, Honda, and Williams. Perhaps his most famous period was with Ferrari from 2000 to 2005, where he was a teammate to Michael Schumacher and recorded numerous podiums. Although he did not win a world title, he achieved 11 victories and 68 podiums in his impressive 19-year career. The watch was released in three limited editions: a titanium version of 1000 pieces (the one offered today), a gold version of 500 pieces, and a platinum version of just 100 pieces. The connection to the driver is evident throughout the design – the hands of the subdials are in the colors of the Brazilian flag, the guilloché is in the familiar Méga Tapisserie style but is skeletonized here, and the iconic octagonal black ceramic bezel adds the model's characteristic aggressive touch. The Barrichello II replaces the standard bezel screws with elements resembling lug nuts for car wheels – another direct reference to motorsports. Instead of traditional integration, these "nuts" are positioned in the internal notches of the bezel, which further enhances the technical and racing character of the watch. The strap is no exception – perforated black calfskin leather with contrasting white stitching, reminiscent of drivers' racing gloves. As most of you probably know, in the first versions of its Offshore chronographs, AP used the caliber 2326/2840 – and it is precisely this one that is integrated here. Based on a Jaeger-LeCoultre movement with a chronograph module, it operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations, with 50 jewels and a power reserve of over 38 hours, and to emphasize its noble origin, the rotor is crafted from 21-carat gold. Although the movement is attractive, a solid case back is used here – decorated with a steering wheel motif from a Formula 1 car, with the same "screws" and notches as those on the bezel. This is the final touch to a timepiece that not only measures time but carries the spirit of racing directly on the wrist.
