Originally developed in collaboration with Pan American Airways for professional pilots, the GMT-Master quickly became one of Rolex's most recognizable tool watches. The ability to track multiple time zones simultaneously revolutionized travel watches and established the GMT-Master as a true icon within the world of horology.
This particular example dates to approximately 1964 and features one of the most desirable characteristics found on early GMT-Master models: the fully red 24-hour GMT hand, commonly referred to by collectors as the "All Red Hand." Unlike later executions featuring a two-tone GMT hand, this early all-red variation is highly sought after and significantly contributes to the watch's rarity and collectability.
The beautiful matte black dial has developed a warm and even patina over the decades, giving the watch exceptional vintage character. The tritium hour markers and hands display natural aging that perfectly complements the overall appearance of the watch. Combined with the striking All Red GMT hand, the dial presents an aesthetic that is immediately appreciated by seasoned collectors.
The classic 40mm Oyster case retains strong proportions and displays the unmistakable character of early GMT-Master references.
