Tag Heuer's famous ambassadors attract considerable attention to the brand – personalities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, and many others have chosen to represent it. For true connoisseurs of the art of watchmaking, however, they are not the only reason to admire Tag Heuer.

Behind the brand's skillfully maintained marketing image lies a long history of innovation in the field of creating the highest quality chronographs. The great past, when the brand produced remarkably accurate time-measuring instruments, is today overshadowed by Tag Heuer's current inventions. At the last few Baselworld exhibitions, the brand has presented, one after another, increasingly precise chronographs, capable of the previously unthinkable measurement of 1/10, 1/100, 1/1000, and even 1/2000 of a second, all with a mechanical drive.

In 2015, Tag Heuer introduced a new flagship in the Carrera line – the Heuer 01. This model comes with a new case architecture, a new design, a new movement, and, most importantly, all of this lays the foundation for the brand's new designs for the years to come. The two case sizes – 45 and 43 mm – in steel and ceramic versions with additionally added lugs, look very different from all previous designs and with their complex construction of 12 separate parts can truly be called sports watches.

Today's example is a special representative of the series, as it was crafted in 2018 specifically for the brand's boutique in Tokyo, in a limited series, and was offered exclusively there. This stunning Carrera 01 Tokyo captures the electrifying spirit of the city through its bold design and uncompromising performance. Different from the standard, yet equally impressive, skeletonized dial of the Carrera, this model features a 43mm black ceramic case, with a piercing red seconds hand, a red date wheel, a red ring around the upper chronograph pusher, a strap with the inscription TOKYO, and a case back with the limited series stamp. Owning this exquisite creation is like possessing a piece of Tokyo's vibrant energy – a reminder that time is precious and life is meant to be lived at full speed.

The case back is transparent, which gives us the opportunity to enjoy the operation of the beautifully decorated movement – here "beats" the factory Calibre 01, which is none other than a new version of the brand's super-successful in-house movement Calibre 1887 – a column-wheel chronograph, 50 hours of power reserve, 39 jewels, operating at 28,800 vibrations. The interesting thing in this case is that the movement is certified according to standards requiring a minimum reserve of over 40 hours with the chronograph running.
