Description
We are pleased to offer this Rolex Pre-Daytona Ref. 6034, produced in 1953 and recently serviced in 2025.
The reference 6034 was introduced in 1950 and is known among collectors as the “Pre-Daytona.” This elegant chronograph features a 36mm Oyster case and is powered by the well-known Valjoux calibre 72 movement, valued for its precision and reliability.
The cream-coloured dial has developed a beautiful patina over time. It features a blue telemeter scale and a tachymeter, a combination once used by racing drivers to measure both distance and speed.
In contrast to the later Daytona models, where these scales moved to the bezel and the telemeter disappeared, this design feels more refined and understated.
The subdials at 3 and 6 o’clock display running seconds, a 30-minute counter, and a 12-hour counter. The long, pointed hour markers match perfectly with the original hands. Both have aged evenly, creating a warm and attractive patina. The “Anti-Magnetic” text above the 6 o’clock subdial is printed in a straight line, which gives this watch a slightly more modern appearance compared to earlier curved versions.
This model also has an interesting link to motorsport history. It was worn by LeRoy Neumayer when he set a land speed record of 233 miles per hour.
This specific watch has recently received a full movement service, ensuring it performs as it should.
The case remains strong and well-defined, while the dial shows beautiful ageing. It truly represents what makes vintage Rolex so special: heritage, craftsmanship, and timeless design.
The watch comes with a Timeless Vintage Watches leather calf strap, as well as a steel Rolex bracelet. The bracelet is secondary to the watch itself, yet still worth mentioning due to its rarity. It is a rare “Beads of Rice” bracelet from the early 1950s, made for Rolex. It features straight end links and offers excellent comfort on the wrist and looks outstanding.
This is a rare and elegant collector’s chronograph, representing Rolex design in its purest form before the Daytona era.
