Heritage Narrative The Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 3700 is one of the most important wristwatches of the 20th century. Designed by Gérald Genta and introduced in 1976, the Nautilus redefined luxury watchmaking by combining high-end horology with stainless steel construction at a time when precious metals dominated the segment. The reference 3700, often referred to as the “Jumbo,” represents the original and purest expression of the Nautilus concept. With its distinctive porthole-inspired case, integrated bracelet, and ultra-thin automatic movement, it established an entirely new category: the luxury sports watch. This 1982 example features the classic grey dial with horizontal embossing, housed in the iconic 42 mm (41 mm measured across the case) stainless steel case. Powered by the legendary ultra-thin calibre 28-255C, developed by Jaeger-LeCoultre and finished to Patek Philippe standards, the 3700 is admired for both its design and mechanical sophistication.
