Inspired by the natural texture of raw silk, the dial features an irregular vertical grain that catches light in a way completely different from typical sunburst or matte finishes. This makes the 1503 Shantung one of the most character-rich and quietly exotic Date models of the 1970s. Produced in 1973, this example is crafted entirely from 18k yellow gold and retains the classic 34 mm Oyster case proportions that defined the era. The warm golden dial, enhanced by the Shantung texture, transforms the watch from “elegant” to “collector-grade subtle flex.” The plexiglass crystal softens reflections, preserving the vintage charm that disappears in later sapphire models. Full-set examples from this period are increasingly scarce, and the presence of both original box and papers sets this piece apart as a true collector’s find.
