Description
The story of the Heuer Autavia began in 1933 as a dashboard stopwatch designed for cars and aircraft, its name derived from AUTomobile and AVIation. Reimagined in 1962 by Jack Heuer as a wristwatch, it quickly became a legendary motorsport chronograph, celebrated for its outstanding legibility, rotating bezel, and close association with Formula 1 greats such as Jo Siffert. The Autavia continued to evolve, most notably in 1969 with the introduction of the first automatic chronograph movement, the Chronomatic Calibre 11, firmly cementing its status. The watch offered here is a reference 73363, featuring the distinctive 42mm C-shaped cushion case typical of early 1970s Autavias, paired with a nicely preserved rotating tachymeter bezel. The originally brown dial has aged into a beautiful milk-chocolate hue — a super charming detail we always appreciate. The layout includes two chronograph registers (a 30-minute counter and running seconds), along with a date window at six o’clock. White printed text and orange accents across the dial, combined with a bright orange central chronograph hand, create a striking and harmonious contrast against the warm brown dial. This fine chronograph is fitted with one of our Bulang & Sons leather straps, which we find to be a perfect match. The watch is powered by the robust, hand-wound Calibre 7733 and has been fully serviced by our watchmaker, making it ready to be enjoyed.
