Description
ROLEX 1016 Explorer 1963 Gilt Underline Tropical Dial. Rare Rolex Explorer 1, reference 1016, with a gilt underline dial. This variant was only produced for a short time during the transition from radium to tritium. Here we have a variant in which the dial has already browned slightly and reveals its full charm in sunlight. The watch dates from 1963, the serial number and caseback match perfectly, and the dial is also original in this configuration. The hands were probably replaced in the 1980s or 1990s during servicing, but they are tritium and also match in colour. The movement oscillates with an amplitude of 275 degrees and does not currently require servicing. The watch can be worn without any problems and is in good working order.
