A touch of history — the origin of the “Pepsi” colors
The distinctive red-and-blue bezel dates back to the 1950s, when Rolex created the first GMT-Master (ref. 6542) for pilots of Pan American World Airways (Pan Am).
The colors were not chosen randomly:
blue represented the night hours,
red represented the daylight hours,
making it easier for pilots on long-haul flights to read a second time zone instantly.
This functional concept became an icon of its own — today the “Pepsi” bezel is one of the most recognizable and collectible design signatures in the entire watch world.
