Aangeboden wordt een fraai stuk Rolex geschiedenis:
In 1953 was Edmund Hillary de eerste persoon die de top van de Mount Everest bereikte. Tijdens deze klim droeg Hillary een Rolex Oyster Perpetual 6098, gegeven door Rolex om hun horloge te testen in extreme omstandigheden. Deze Oyster Perpetuals golden als prototypes voor de, niet veel later uitgebrachte, Explorer lijn.
Kort na deze expeditie bracht Rolex de Explorer 6350 uit, welke werd geadverteerd als: "For men who conquer the world’s highest peaks", wat een verwijzing is naar de succesvolle tocht. Daarom wordt dit horloge ook wel de 'Pre-Explorer' genoemd.
Er zijn beelden waarop te zien is dat de wijzerplaat van de Rolex om Hillary’s pols overeenkomt met dit model. De kans is groot dat ze uit dezelfde batch komen!
Het hier aangeboden model verkeert in nette staat voor de leeftijd. De wijzerplaat heeft wat patina. Het radium van de uurmarkeringen is verdonkerd. Op de foto's is het horloge voorzien van een Forstner band waarop een Rolex sluiting is gemonteerd. Naast deze band komt het horloge ook met een nieuwe, passende Jubilee-band. Ook wordt het horloge geleverd met een period correct doosje.

- Clearly visible signs of wear, including scratches, dents, or noticeable bracelet or clasp wear. Servicing may be recommended in the future. Fully functional unless otherwise stated.
