Description
In 1955 kwam IWC met een antwoord op de vraag naar horloges voor voornamelijk ingenieurs die zich tijdens hun werk in elektromagnetische velden begaven: de IWC Ingenieur.
De kastconstructie van de Ingenieur is interessant, omdat deze gebruikmaakt van het Faraday-principe. Een Faraday cage houdt externe elektromagnetische velden buiten.
Genoeg technische uitleg; we zijn immers horlogeverkopers en geen natuurkundedocenten. Het in 1955 uitgebrachte model lijkt nog niet op de karakteristieke kastvorm van de Ingenieur zoals wij die nu kennen. In 1976 huurde IWC de iconische ontwerper Gérald Genta in om het ontwerp opnieuw vorm te geven. Hier ontstond de iconische esthetische basis, met onder andere de geïntegreerde band en de schroeven op de lunette, waar IWC tot op heden op teruggrijpt.
Dit model was echter commercieel gezien geen groot succes en werd later uit de collectie gehaald. In 2005 herintroduceerde IWC de Ingenieur, en dit keer met succes. De modellijn groeide uit tot een icoon van het merk met vele variaties in materialen en formaten.
Het hier aangeboden model is een goed voorbeeld hiervan. Het horloge is uitgerust met een forse kast van 46mm. De chronograaffunctie wordt gecomplementeerd door de contrasterende subdials, de tachymeter en de strakke pushers. Het horloge bevindt zich in zeer nette staat en de complete set komt uit 2014.
