The Dial
The dial of this Omega Seamaster Chronograph is all about function and clarity. The matte black surface provides an excellent contrast against the white printed tachymeter scale and sub-dials, ensuring high readability. The three-register layout—featuring a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a running seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock—follows the classic Omega chronograph design, prioritizing legibility. The luminous white baton hands and matching hour markers ensure visibility in low light, while the orange central chronograph seconds hand adds a pop of color that enhances both function and aesthetics.
The Case
At 40mm, the stainless steel case has a bold presence, but its smooth, tonneau shape keeps it from feeling bulky. Unlike the more angular "Jedi" chronograph, this model features a flatter, more streamlined profile, earning it the Flat Jedi nickname among collectors. The mix of brushed and polished surfaces adds depth to the design, while the pump pushers and signed Omega crown maintain a clean and functional look. The Seamaster engraving on the case back is a reminder that this was built as a tool watch, with durability in mind.
The Movement
Inside, the watch is powered by the legendary Omega Caliber 861, the same manual-wind movement found in the Speedmaster Moonwatch of the era. Introduced as an evolution of the Caliber 321, the 861 featured a cam-actuated chronograph system rather than a column wheel, making it more cost-effective while maintaining excellent reliability and precision. This watch offers a smooth chronograph function and impressive durability. The presence of this movement reinforces the Flat Jedi’s status as a serious chronograph, built for precision timing in the late 1960s when mechanical watches still dominated professional and sporting applications.
