In 1904, Louis Cartier granted the wish of Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont who requested to be able to tell the time while flying. By creating one of the first wrist watches, that could be fixed to its user’s wrist Cartier sealed the bond of friendship between the two pioneers. Perhaps not the first wristwatch, it was definitely one of the first pilot’s watches ever made, its rounded corners and the square-ish case came to be a classic, and in 1911, the watches went on sale to the public for the first time.
