By the close of the 1960s, the renowned dial maker, Singer, was approached by several Swiss watchmakers to create fresh dial designs for their model collections. In their well-known 1967/1968 catalog, Singer unveiled a variety of design concepts, printing techniques, markers, and finishes for multiple brands. Among the pages of this catalog, some of the most iconic Rolex dials first made their appearance, including the Yach-master Daytona and the early versions of the legendary "Paul Newman" dials. However, there was also a notable section dedicated to the legendary Rolex Datejust. Many of these designs were never brought to life and were later archived, but a few did go into production. One such example is the intriguing "Singer Block Markers" dial, which shares a striking resemblance to one of the dial variations shown in the Datejust section of the Singer catalog. It's believed that this dial was one of the selected design studies that eventually made it into production in limited quantities. The shape of the markers introduces a distinctive and dynamic feel to the soleil silver dial, giving it a unique and prototype-like quality. The mirror filling within the markers adds incredible depth to the piece, with the color shifting from white to black depending on the angle, creating an eye-catching effect.
