Rolex Daytona with a Green Dial

The Cosmograph Daytona is Rolex at its most athletic, an iconic sports chronograph refined into modern luxury. Green-dial executions sit in the precious-metal tier and are widely collected. You still get the core DNA: an Oyster case with screw-down crown and pushers, a tachymeter bezel, sapphire crystal, real water resistance, and a chronometer-grade automatic movement, notably calibers 4130 and 4131.

The dial is the hook. Sunburst or metallic green, shifting from olive to emerald with the light, delivers exotic presence. Applied indices, crisp subdials, and a clean minute track keep function honest while the color does the talking. Beyond the “John Mayer” nickname, the broader appeal is how green plays against 18k yellow gold, moving from rich to restrained with a simple wrist roll.

Most cases are in yellow gold or Everose, with platinum elsewhere in the family and occasional gem-set bezels for added theater. The polished tachymeter bezel bridges sport and dress. On the wrist you’ll see the solid Oyster bracelet, and on select references, the Oysterflex option for a rubber feel without losing precious-metal punch.

References at a glance

  • 116508 and 126508: yellow gold with green-dial character.
  • 116598: gem-set bezel variants for a flashier edge.
  • 116505 and 126505: Everose pieces framing the theme in warmer metal.

Market reality: new pieces, if obtainable, land around €40.000 to €55.000. Pre-owned spans roughly €65.000 to €180.000, shaped by condition, movement generation, gem setting, and whether a full set is present. The result is a rare-feeling timepiece with strong resale interest: a Swiss grail that blends precious-metal shine with chronograph purpose and keeps its cool when the light hits that green just right.
